Carlin Truong – Vocal

Carlin - C&LCarlin Truong (張希) is a music educator from the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from UC San Diego in 2012 where he studied voice and music composition.

Prior to his graduation, Carlin participated in and worked with various vocal ensembles. In 2001, he joined the Crystal Children’s Choir where he performed at international venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Saint Peter’s Basilica, and Taiwan’s National Theater. In 2006, Carlin joined the a cappella group, The Ritards, noted for their ability to sing music genres spanning from popular American hits to Chinese ballads. He continues to collaborate with The Ritards, and has had the honor of touring with them in Beijing and throughout Taiwan. In 2008, he became one of the principle members in Frequency, UC San Diego’s first all-male a cappella group, and became the music and performing director in 2009. He studied abroad at the University of Ghana in 2011 where he founded the Acapella Ensemble, the university’s first course in contemporary a cappella music. In addition, he became a member of a professional gospel group, The Shepherds, which was interviewed by BBC Africa and appeared multiple times on Ghanaian national television.

Currently, Carlin is working on his MA in Choral Conducting at San Jose State University. He looks forward to getting more involved with the Bay Area music community and helping developing musicians fuel their passion for singing, music, and learning in general.
